The BBC Anton Chekhov Collection

April 22nd 2010 15:26
Original Creative Writing: Anton Chekhov 1860 - 1904
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov 1860 - 1904 was a Russian Dramatist. A Physician by profession as a student he wrote journalistic materials and then some short farcical plays. He went on to write some fine works for the theatre; some timeless in their humanity. Classic. The most quoted is probably The Seagull, often used for acting auditions. Many young actors present a speech by Nina about being an actress. It can be harsh to sit through several of them, one after the other.

In Sydney I once worked on a production of The Seagull being put on by a group of people for an anniversary of the playwright however as does happen from time to time the production was dismantled before it ever got up as they say. Pity at the time as it was shaping up to be quite a good turn by a strong cast, but something about money and a venue, or lack there of. All in all, it is safe to say the plays of Chekhov are worth going through or going to.

Read and listen

One way to draw thoughts and views of your own surrounding an election process obviously, is to be informed. Yet, being informed is easier said than done, because most delivery of information has been presented in a different way on a different platform and you can't be everywhere at once. It would be impossible to catch every single bit of information that was available to you - especially if you are starting out on a quest to become informed.

Where to start? It is most likely the greatest help to look at source material wherever possible. So that means deciding on who you want to keep up with, such as the Prime Minister, and then take a look around the web to discover where he may be sourced at the raw level

Ibsen Collection on DVD

April 3rd 2010 21:30
Original Creative Writing: Henrik Ibsen plays
Norwegian playwright, Ibsen is generally acknowledged as the founder of modern prose drama. He moved away from the Romantic style, and brought the problems and ideas of the day onto the stage of his time.

This BBC Classics Collection of works by Ibsen is value packed for any theatre lover. It is rare to see his work these days because by today's standards it is very old classic theatre, and maybe a little less than commercial. Many would say his plays are not very engaging. Not dramatic enough - however in his day Ibsen was quite the shocker
