Apollo and Ares

May 17th 2006 12:23
I’ve done a few posts on myths but I thought I’d do a post on the actual gods so everyone knows a bit about them. Where better to start then two of the most infamous men.

Apollo:

Was the god of arts especially poetry and music. He was the son of Zeus and Leto. He’s debatably been one of the most influential of the old ‘gods’. Apollo was very much a symbol of civilisation and class therefore its not surprising that many beautiful guys were called ‘Apollo’ back in the days of Greeks and Romans. For a bit more information read the post on Apollo and Daphne.

Ares.

Was the god of war. He was rumoured to line his bed with the skin of men. He was also famous for his love affair with Aphrodite-who at the time was married. Aphrodite’s husband Hephaistos learnt of their affair and lined the bed with a very fine netting. Therefore when Ares and Aphrodite had a rendezvous Hephaistos was able to catch them in the act. He then invited everyone in Olympus to come and see the two in the compromising position.
