Dappled Cities takes centre stage Art & About Sydney 2010
Sydney will be transformed into a living gallery on Thursday 23 September when Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore officially launches Art & About Sydney 2010.
The free public launch in Hyde Park will be headlined by Sydney band Dappled Cities, DJ Kate Monroe, and will include the announcement of the winner of the much loved outdoor photography competition Sydney Life.
Now in its ninth year Art & About Sydney is truly a festival for all. I encourage everyone to get out and about during these four weeks to explore the fun and engaging installations, exhibitions, performances and events which will transform Sydney, said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.
Highlights from this year's program include:
a 12metre high giant bike installation in Martin Place for The Bike Bike
faces of 100 Sydneysiders framing our major streets for The Banner Gallery
famed Australian artists reinterpreting historic figures in Sydney Statues: Project!
forgotten laneways being made over by contemporary artists in Are You Looking At Me?
and the iconic large scale photography exhibition Sydney Life, providing a sneak peak into the lives of Sydneysiders.
Big name artists and curators have been enlisted to create the most exciting Art & About Sydney to date. Leading Australian artists include Ken Done, Linda Jackson, Jenny Kee and John Kaldor who will work alongside emerging artists to make over public spaces through the vision of The Sydney Experience, the uniquely Sydney perspective of what it means to live in Sydney 2010.
All the events of Art & About Sydney 2010 are free to the public.
It's an exciting month, and I look forward to seeing you out and about on the streets of Sydney as we celebrate our City's creativity, said Ms Moore.
