1:1 ARCHITECTS BUILD SMALL SPACES

This summer, the V&A has commissioned seven architects at the forefront of experimental design to create their first built structures in the UK. The structures are installed in a number of locations across the Museum and designed as immersive spaces - places both of encounter and reflection - where visitors can escape the chaos of everyday life and directly experience the architecture first hand.

CERAMICS STUDY GALLERIES
OPENED 10 JUNE
The V&A has opened its Ceramics Study Galleries this summer as one of the world's leading resources for scholars and artists. These house the Museum's unrivalled study collections.
Here visitors are able to see more than 26,500 objects in striking and coherent displays presenting almost the entire history of ceramic production from 30,000 BC to the present day.
The extensively refurbished galleries complement and complete the V&A Ceramics Galleries, which opened to wide acclaim in September 2009.

The spectacular wardrobe of Grace Kelly, one of the most popular actresses of the 1950s, is now on display. Featuring dresses from her films High Society and Rear Window, as well as the gown she wore to accept her Oscar in 1955, the display examines Grace Kelly's glamorous Hollywood image and enduring appeal.
It also explores the evolution of her style as Princess Grace of Monaco, from the outfit she wore to her first meeting with Prince Rainier in 1955 to her haute couture gowns of the 1960s and '70s by her favourite couturiers Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Yves St Laurent.

The pioneering weekly publication New Society was founded in 1962 and continued as an independent magazine until 1988. This display comprises a selection of photographs taken by twenty-three photographers, alongside covers and spreads from the magazine.

Returning to the V&A for a second year, Arabian Nights is a one-day family festival celebrating Arab and Islamic culture. As part of the V&A's Free Art Fun programme, Arabian Nights will invite adults and children to learn more about the Arab world through performance, music, design workshops and storytelling.
There will be the opportunity to try Middle Eastern drumming, hear classical Arabic music and sample Arabian food.

Photographer Caroline Irby spent one year tracking down a child born in every country in the world (now living in the UK), then photographed and interviewed each one. The photographs make up this display alongside a series of short films featuring some of the interviews, providing an insight into the effects of globalization.

An exhibition in partnership with London College of Fashion, taking a closer look at the history of jewellery in east London, with emphasis on how the ornaments we use to decorate our bodies often have great personal and cultural significance. Bling combines the work of local school children, Foundation Diploma students from London College of Fashion and contemporary jewellers with East End connections. SIT DOWN: SEATING FOR KIDS

Taking the classic children's tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears as its starting point, Sit Down: Seating for Kids invites the visitor to consider just what makes a successful seat.
Spanning four centuries, the exhibition features over 80 examples of seating made for children, ranging from school chairs to armchairs, saddles to swings and highchairs to potties. Designs by Charles Eames, Vitra and El Ultimo Grito are on display, as well as the Modernist high chair by Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld and Spotty, a 1960s paper chair designed by Peter Murdoch.
