DON'T BE KEPT IN THE DARK
The suspenseful drama, Blind Company divulges the intensity of familial love and revenge in a limited season from April 28. Blind Company is written and directed by Alkinos Tsilimodos, one of Australia's most important contemporary film directors, renowned for his stories of social relevance.
Blind Company opens in Melbourne on April 28 at the Cinema Nova and is screening in Sydney at the Chauvel Cinema and in Brisbane at The Barracks from May 20.
Geoff Brewster, played by Colin Friels, is seeing out his final days at the family's isolated, coastal shack - walking the beach and recording confessions to his estranged wife, Sally. He is also going blind. When his Porsche driving nephew, Josh, arrives unannounced, a tense game ensues with shattering consequences.
I'm thrilled to able to present my latest film, Blind Company. It's my second collaboration with Colin Friels and we've been saving up for this one, said Writer & Director, Alkinos Tsilimodos.
Essentially a rugged love story - an exploration into taboo and immorality. Set beside a picturesque Tasmanian sea, Friels and Barkla get caught in an emotional rip that often had me gasping for air. I look forward to audiences immersing themselves in these outstanding performances.
Writer and director, Alkinos Tsilimodos is rapidly earning a reputation for his uncompromising approach to stories of social relevance and he is the recipient of numerous awards. His debut feature film Everynight ... Everynight (1994) won international critical acclaim and was awarded Best First Film (Prix D'Montreal). Following this, Tsilimodos' Silent Partner (2001) and Tom White (2004) received numerous Australian feature Film Award nominations. Tsilimodos' has been invited to participate in a number of international film festivals with Silent Partner, Tom White and Em4Jay (2006).
Colin Friels is one of Australia's best known and loved actors. He first came to international attention as the lead in Nadia Tass' much loved feature Malcolm, a role for which he was named Best Actor at the 1986 AFI Awards but it was during Friel's five years as the lead in Water Rats, for which he won a number of awards, that Australia fell in love with him. His film credits include Alex Proyas' sci-fi thriller Dark City (1998), Rolf de Heer's Dingo (1991), Gillian Armstrong's High Tide (1988) and Charlotte Grey (2002) and Bruce Beresford's A Good Man in Africa (1994). In 2004, Colin received the Film Critics Circle of Australia Award and the IF Award for Best Actor in Alkinos Tsilimidos' film, Tom White. His television credits also include ABC's mini-series The Farm alongside Greta Scacchi , Halifax f.p. and the Ben Elton mini-series Stark.
Nick Barkla has been studying and performing in New York and returned to Australia inspired to both perform and write. Barkla's television credits include Blue Heelers and The Secret Life of Us. He has performed in Storeroom Theatre's Uncle Bob and A-Framed in Melbourne and while overseas performed in the plays, The Balm in Gilead, Life and Limb, Icecream and Ivanov. Barkla has previously worked with Tsilimodos on Tom White and Em4Jay. Barkla has collaborated with Tsilimodos as co-writer of the screenplay adaptation of Peter Rose's memoir Rose Boys and he has written his own screenplay adaptation of Evan Connell's controversial novel Diary of a Rapist.
Gloria Ajenstat started on television in the early eighties. Upon returning to Australia from New York, Ajenstat has worked in theatre and television. Her theatre credits include Salvation Jane, Shadowlands, After the Rain and The Revisionist. Her television credits include MDA, Stingers, Something in the Air, Secret Life of Us, and City Homicide.
Much loved Australian actor, Samuel Johnson has a wealth of experience including lead roles in the feature films The Illustrated Family Doctor, Taken, New Skin, Inner Sanctuary and House of Names, and supporting roles in the films $9.99, Crackerjack, Strange Fits of Passion and Angel Baby. Johnson's television experience includes US mini-series The Pacific, as well as Thank God You're Here, Stingers, Good Guys Bad Guys, Thunderstone, One Way Ticket, The Last of the Ryans, Raw FM, Blue Heelers, Cooper ST Sub, Ocean Girl, Home and Away and of course the role that made him a household name, Evan in The Secret Life of Us for which he won an AFI award.
