Existentialism is a movement of philosophy that deals primarily with questions relating to life and the meaning of existence. It sees anxiety, dread and awareness of death as the underlying principles of human existence. The most important question existentialists deal with is the meaning of life.
The “father of existentialism”, Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard argued that humans could only be understood from the inside that is in terms of their experienced dilemmas and experiences. As opposed to from the outside in terms of biology etc. Existentialism emphasies action, freedom and decision as the fundemntal keys to human exsistence. The movement is a reaction against traditional rationalist theories, that emphases the importance of rational thought in humans and their exsistence.
Existentialism is often viewed as a bleak philosophy, that sees humans as isolated agents in the world, who continuously face death and their own mortality. If your going to refer to something or someone being ‘existentialist’ make sure its in relaiton to them questioning morality and the meaning of life in a sort of depressing way. That’s the rule of thumb anyway.

You know, I learn more from your journal than uni (although I also spend more time reading your journal then going to uni).

Very enlightening! (but what's the point anyway since we're all going to die)
I enjoyed reading your post (except that it reminded me that all joy is transient and a construct of the materialist world we are doomed to inhabit).
Now I have to go contemplate the human condition and the bleakness of being surrounded by nature that constantly reminds us of our own perishable constitution.
Not where he eats, but where he is eaten:
a certain convocation of politic worms are e'en at him.
Your worm is your only emperor for diet:
we fat all creatures else to fat us, and we fat ourselves for maggots:
Your fat king and your lean beggar is but variable service,
two dishes, but to one table: that's the end.
-- Hamlet, Act IV, Scene III.
