The SBS Youth Orchestra is bringing a selection of musical works that touch on moments of Drama and Theatre to Riverside Theatres on Sunday, 25 September at 3pm in the exciting concert, Expressions of Identity conducted by Geoffrey Gartner.
The SBS Youth Orchestra collaborates with Orange Conservatorium of Music to present a program which accents the importance of personal and cultural identity.
"It is always wonderful to have the incredibly talented young musicians from the SBS Youth Orchestra come to Riverside Theatres. The traditions from which the pieces are taken are musically rich and interesting" said Director of Riverside Theatres, Robert Love.
Jean Sibelius is seen as a composer whose works played a pivotal part in the expression of Finnish cultural and national identity. Ernest Bloch, was born in Switzerland and said to have been influenced by German, French and Jewish musical traditions. His concertino for Flute and Viola is a delightful piece which features Sally Walker on flute and Andrew Baker on viola. Brahms wrote his famous Academic Festival Overture as a thank you to the University of Breslau. Dvorak's Slavonic Dances were inspired by Brahms and overtly nationalistic. The Concert features invited soloists Andrew Baker on viola and Sally Walker on flute. Along with Conductor Geoffrey Gartner, all three are former members of the SBS Youth Orchestra and have embarked on professional careers.
