Original Creative Writing: Our Place - Feast 2010
One of Australia's most extraordinary performance artists, the Queen of Cabaret Bizarre, Moira Finucane returns to Adelaide with a compelling double-bill presentation for the 2010 Feast Festival.

First on the bill is her newly revised, The Feast of Argentina Gina Catalina a supper show starring Finucane as the rapacious Spanish diva Argentina Gina Catalina, a character who is acclaimed throughout the world for her feats of daring, sensuality and fervour.

The show includes sumptuous supper prepared by fairground icon and gourmand KT Prescott and will play in the 200 seat Ballroom at the new Feast Hub, Light Square from 17 - 21 November at 7.30pm for five performances only. Table bookings are available.

Second on the bill at 9.15pm from 17 - 21 November in the Ballroom following The Feast of Argentina Gina Catalina Finucane presents the Adelaide premiere of Salon de Dance. Set in an intimate and seedy gothic-noir dance hall, the show features a wild array of nine extraordinary dancers and physical artists including the Mistress of Grand Guignol herself Moira Finucane; the iconoclastic Maude Davey; the tuxedoed Rob McCredie, butoh star Yumi Umiumare, felines Kitten Ko; and No Strings Attached stars Rachel High and Emma J Hawkins.

Salon de dance, is not merely a show; it is a place, an experience, a salon in the French style filled with the flavour of cabaret, burlesque and all sorts of dance and music. It is a sweet bag of mixed lollies to tantalise the taste buds. Herald Sun

Her work is sometimes shocking, sometimes hilarious but always compelling. It is hard to look away when she performs, but why would you? The theatre space she creates for her audience is intense but relentlessly inviting. Australian Stage Online

Based in Melbourne, Moira Finucane has been a performance artist for more than ten years, creating and producing award winning theatre, which has toured, successfully, both nationally and internationally. Her collaboration with award winning theatre creator and director Jackie Smith (joint winner Patrick White Playwright Award) has created the signature Finucane & Smith. Together they create intimate theatrical spectacles where variety, vaudeville, cabaret, the gothic and fairy tale are melded into indelible visions of gender, power, violence and desire.

Finucane & Smith's work has been presented in major festivals, theatres, galleries and clubs across Australia and internationally including the Brisbane Festival, Sydney Opera House, Hong Kong City Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, Adelaide Festival of Arts, Australian National Gallery (Canberra), Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, Brighton Festival (UK), Melbourne International Film Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival (UK), queerupnorth UK (London & Manchester), Festival of Contemporary Art (Canberra), Duckie (Edinburgh & London), Medium Rare (London), The Famous Spiegeltent (Australia & UK), Chunky Move Dance Company, and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. And most recently at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Tickets to each show are priced from $35.00 ($30.00 concession) and may be purchased through Feastix or by phone on 08 8463 0684. Cabaret tables of four may also be booked for $150.00 including a complimentary bottle of wine thanks to the Mantra group.

The Feast of Argentina Gina Catalina is co-presented by Feast, Finucane & Smith and Vitalstatistix. Salon de Dance is co-presented by Feast, Finucane & Smith, Vitalstatistix and No Strings Attached.

The theme for Feast 2010, which runs from Saturday 13th - Sunday 28th November is OUR Place which ties into the new Feast home in Light Square and also asks what and where is the place for the queer community in the modern day.
