Thirty-six emerging visual artists from TAFE SA Adelaide College of the Arts will exhibit their work at an end-of-year showcase exhibition titled I Was Here in the Light Square Gallery during November.
I was here is a large-scale group exhibition showcasing the work of the 2011 Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design graduates. The exhibition features a diverse range of creative disciplines including photography, painting, drawing,printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery. I Was Here is the culmination of years of visual arts training for each of these emerging South Australian artists, and is a powerful first step towards a career as a practicing artist.
"I Was Here brings to mind the desire to mark one's journey. Reminiscent of scribbles on walls, rock piles built on hikes or messages carved on trees, I Was Here is a means of marking the end of one part of our journey and the beginning of another," says graduating painter Michael Sara. "This exhibition is a proud statement by all of us acknowledging our place as students and graduates at AC Arts, a lasting declaration of the hard work we have undertaken over the past three years."
The 2011 graduating exhibition will be larger than in previous years, as it combines what were formerly two exhibitions into one. I Was Here will be an impressive showcase of graduating studentswho combine strong conceptual ideas with high levels of technical skill. All students will be involved in the creation of the final exhibition as it is their vision to present the best of their work in the most professional way possible.
In order to promote their work and raise their profiles among local and national galleries and arts institutions, an exhibition catalogue and accompanying CD of highquality images has been produced with support of a Helpmann Academy grant.
