Superstar Resurrected in Sydney's West
The original Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice rock opera sensation will rise - and rock - at Riverside Theatres this October when Riverside Lyric Ensemble (RLE) presents an original revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Take one part legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, add in genius lyricist Tim Rice, stir in a healthy serving of the New Testament, and finish off with our modern obsession with celebrity, and you have Jesus Christ Superstar.
A rock'n'roll retelling of the Gospels, and especially the last days of Christ's life, this is the hit musical that started it all.
Featuring memorable songs like "I Don't Know How to Love Him" and "Superstar", JC Superstar was the first full-length musical collaboration between Webber and Rice - and many still consider it their best.
It is also one of the iconic stage shows of the 20th century.
From its West End and Broadway beginnings in 1971 to the famous movie version and productions in almost every country in the world, JC Superstar and its hit songs made international pop stars of the performers and drew controversy even in the swinging '70s.
Now Riverside Lyric Ensemble (who produced the sell-out and critical hit production of The Hatpin earlier this year) bring this thrilling show back to the Sydney stage in their own original and exciting production for a limited season of seven performances.
Directed by Anne Hart and with musical direction by Manu Prasad, RLEÂs JC Superstar stars Nelson Padilla as Jesus, Chris Fung as Judas, Emily Potts as Mary, Christopher Bennie as Pilate, David Izzard as Herod, Frederick Hama as Caiphas and Andrew Lindsay as Annas.
Plus a huge all-singing, all-dancing supporting cast.
Performances:
Friday 22nd October 8pm
Saturday 23rd October 2pm and 8pm
Wednesday 27th October 8pm
Friday 29th October 8pm
Saturday 30th October 2pm and 8pm
Lennox Theatre, Riverside Theatres Parramatta, Cnr Church and Market Streets, Parramatta
Tickets are $35 ($30 concession) with children and groups of ten or more just $25.
