The dawn of the Heroic Age in the Marvel Universe and the reestablishment of one of the classic super-hero teams in Avengers No. 1 from superstar creators Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita, Jr., gave Marvel Comics the top spot on the comics sales chart in May 2010, based on total unit sals to comic book specialty shops, according to Diamond Comic Distributors.
Marvel Comics took the top publisher spot in May with the company leading in both the Unit Market and Dollar Shares categories, with a 45.52% Unit Market Share and a 40.66% Dollar Share for the month.
As the monthly series winds to its conclusion, Brian K. Vaughn and Tony Harris' Ex Machina Volume 9: Ring Out the Old from DC Comics' Wildstorm imprint gave DC Comics the best-selling graphic novel in the month of May.
DC Direct's partnership with Hong Kong toymaker Hot Toys produced The Dark Knight: 1/6-Scale Batman (Sonar) MMS DX Figure, based on Christopher Nolan's blockbuster film, and gave the manufacturer the best-selling toy product to comic specialty retailers in May.
NECA/WizKids' latest expansion for the HeroClix miniatures game, the DC HeroClix: The Brave and the Bold Expansion, was the top-selling games product to specialty retailers for the second month in a row.
