Original Creative Writing:
MEET THE FILMMAKER AT PALACE NOVA EASTEND CINEMAS
AT THE PREMIERE OF IN SEARCH OF BEETHOVEN
Meet director Phil Grabsky at the premiere of his new film IN SEARCH OF BEETHOVEN at the Nova Eastend Cinema Wednesday, October 21 at 6.15pm.
Phil Grabsky is one of the UK's leading film-makers. He has specialized in arts, biographical and historical documentaries for over 20 years for television and cinema. Recent highlights have included the award-winning film In Search of Mozart, which screened in Adelaide at Palace Nova Eastend cinemas in 2006. Other highlights include historical programmes with Terry Jones for the BBC and Discovery, a major film on Muhammed Ali and more than 100 visual arts programmes with Tim Marlow for Channel Five and Sky Arts. His arts programmes, which are informative, engaging and stimulating, reveal both a seriousness of purpose and his wide interests.
Following the success of In Search of Mozart, Phil Grabsky has created a new feature-length biographical film on Beethoven. Leading performers and experts shed new light on this legendary figure. The film is narrated by Juliet Stevenson and young RSC actor David Dawson. As with the Mozart film, In Search of Beethoven takes a comprehensive look at the composer's life through his musical output. Above all, In Search of Beethoven addresses the romantic myth that Beethoven was a heroic, tormented figure battling to overcome his tragic fate, struck down by deafness, who searched for his 'immortal beloved' but remained unmarried. It delves beyond the image of the tortured, cantankerous, unhinged personality, to reveal someone quite different and far more interesting.
PREMIERE: 6.15pm Wednesday, October 21.
The film will be followed by a Q & A discussion with director Paul Grabsky.
