MAKING IT UP AS THOU GOEST
Much Ado About Impro
Sydney Comedy Festival at the Parade Theatre
Australia's finest comics are combining for a Sydney Comedy Festival mega-treat where each will fly by the seat of their pantaloons!
Much Ado About Impro is a Theatresports show - totally impovised and similar to hits like Thank God You're Here and Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
The show boasts a cast of Australia's greatest comic improvisers. Ay, but here's the rub: they shall in Shakespeare's idiom their idiocy relate! Zounds!
It's fast-paced, hilariously funny and - best of all - it can all go horribly wrong at any moment! Danger factor: 100%!!!
This is notionally a competitive event - the audience votes via YE OLDE CLAP-O-METER, there will be judges and someone will win. The judges look for Technique, Narrative and Entertainment. And the public can volunteer to be a judge via the show's website! While the show has a Shakespearian theme - it has little to do with the actual works of Shakespeare. So don't worry if you don't know your Coriolanus from your Othello - you'll be in good company.
Theatresports is the playground of choice for comics, celebrities and quick-witted personalities of all types. Adam Spencer, Andrew Denton, Gabby Millgate, Wil Anderson, Andrew O'Keefe, Julia Zemiro, Robyn Butler, Nicola Parry and so many more either cut their comic teeth on impro or continue to throw themselves into the high-risk fun and games with gusto. Why?
Australia's impro doyen Lyn Pierse and director of Much Ado About Impro (her 300th Theatresports show!) says It's about not just the adrenalin rush of extreme theatre. Freedom, the ultimate licence to go where the inspiration takes you, to trust your team-mates and risk falling to fly high as your imagination will go! This is my all-time favourite production and the Parade is the perfect venue for it.
The Much Ado cast features Theatresports legends Daniel Cordeaux, Monique Dykstra, Murray Fahey, Michael Gregory, Josie O'Reilly, Berynn Schwerdt, Simon Ward, Nigel Sutton as your MC Wil Shakespeare, Jenny Hope as his sidekick and timekeeper Elizabeth I along with Jason Earl of Rushton, your improvising minstrel! With a guest appearance from Rob Carlton (star of Underbelly and Chandon Pictures).
