Possible Worlds, Sydney's Canadian Film Festival celebrates its 5th big year, showcasing the best new films made in Canada. The first and only annual Canadian film festival outside Canada, Possible Worlds is fast becoming a cornerstone of the Australian cultural calendars.

Possible Worlds unfolds from August 2 to 8, running a week of film premieres, filmmaker Q&A's, industry talks and parties. Dendy Opera Quays and Dendy Newtown are the host cinemas and are joined by a multitude of site-specific screenings and parties around Sydney with venues including Seymour Centre, Gleebooks, Fraser Studio, St Stephen's Church Hall Newtown.

Welcoming prestigious filmmakers to Sydney, Possible Worlds is a meeting point for the Canadian and Australian film industries, while providing an opportunity for locals to watch the best new Canadian films and meet the artists. Audiences can look forward to brand new films in both French and English, many of which are screening in Australia for the first time.

Features, documentaries and short films are presented by programmers and visiting filmmakers and the audience is invited to vote for the prestigious Audience Award for Best Film.

The full program will be revealed on Canada Day, July 1st 2010.

"The Festival has grown in leaps and bounds over the past five years, a reflection of local audiences' insatiable appetite for world cinema. Film lovers know Possible Worlds as a friendly, inclusive celebration of a cinema both strangely familiar and refreshingly different," said Artistic Director Matt Ravier.

"This year we invite everyone to join us as we discover a cinema as entertaining as it is thought-provoking, infused with courage, vision and independence. In a society dominated by stories and images manufactured in and influenced by Hollywood, Canadian cinema has emerged as a vibrant alternative, offering a smart new perspective on the world we live in." continued Artistic Director Matt Ravier.
