The Helpmann Academy for the Visual & Performing Arts presents a delicious exhibition of artworks by some of Adelaide's top emerging and established artists, titled The Art of Tea.
The mystical properties of tea have fascinated mankind for centuries, and it is a central ingredient for many ceremonial rituals and celebrations; just think of the morning tea, afternoon tea, the British high tea or the good old fashioned tea party.
The Art of Tea brings together more than forty artworks by twenty emerging and established artists. The exhibition includes ceramics, drawings, installations, paintings and photography, all inspired by this wonderful beverage. Staged in one of the cityÃÂs newest artist-run exhibition spaces - the Backroom Studio in North Adelaide ÃÂ the exhibition features the work of:
Amalia Alpareanu, Thom Buchanan, Fran Callen, Aurelia Carbone, Sandy Elverd, Annalisa Feleppa, Klaus Gutowski, Tristan Louth-Robins, Erin Lykos, Wayne McAra, Zachary McLeay, Lorelei Medcalf, Jake One, Karen Paris, Emma Sirona-Macdonald, Heather Teakle, Kelly Jade Thomas, Cassie Thring, Trish Trezise and Kath Waddell.
Part proceeds from all exhibition sales will support participation by emerging artists in the Adelaide Festival 2010 ArtistsÃÂ Week Workshop program.
ARIspace is a new artist-run gallery, dedicated to providing an accessible exhibition space for emerging, mid-career and established artists. The gallery is run on a voluntary basis by a group of practising artists.
The Helpmann Academy for the Visual & Performing Arts assists emerging artists to make the leap into professional practice, by providing a range of programs and opportunities including exhibitions, awards, grants, mentorships and international exchanges. The seven partner schools that make up the Academy are the Adelaide Centre for the Arts and Vizarts OÃÂHalloran Hill (tafeSA); Adelaide Central School of Art; Elder Conservatorium of Music (University of Adelaide); Flinders Drama & Screen Production (Flinders University) and South Australian School of Art (UniSA).
