STC Ed presents The Residents in
THE COMEDY OF ERRORS
by William Shakespeare
6 - 27 August 2010. Opening Night 9 August 2010 at 7.00pm
Wharf 2, Sydney Theatre Company, Pier 4/5 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay
Sydney Theatre Company's permanent ensemble of actors, The Residents, take on Shakespeare's enthralling farce of identical twins, mistaken identity and hilarious misadventures, The Comedy of Errors, at Wharf 2 from 6 - 27 August 2010.
The production, directed by Charmian Gradwell, is part of the Company's extensive 2010 Education Program (STC Ed), with evening performances open to both school groups and the general public.
When two sets of twins, both of whom were accidentally separated at birth and are unaware of the others existence, coincidentally end up in the town of Ephesus at the same time, hilarious consequences are inevitable.
Accompanied by towns-folk and family the four twins find their lives inexplicably descending into riotous chaos in Gradwell's 90 minute production with a distinctly Latin America feel.
Director Charmian Gradwell is Sydney Theatre Company's Voice and Text Coach and has worked as an actor, director, voice/text specialist and movement director. Prior to joining Sydney Theatre Company, she worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company's Voice and Text department in the UK.
The Residents came together in June 2009 and occupy a central role in the day-to-day operations of Sydney Theatre Company across all aspects of the Company's creative output. As well as occasional Main Stage shows, they also work within the Company's Next Stage, Back Stage and Education streams, moving regularly between these different areas with a particular emphasis on developing new work.
STC Ed delivers a specially designed program for up to 30,000 young people each year, including four major productions, a range of workshops, professional development opportunities for teachers and a range of other activities.
